In today's column I promised some links: YellowBridge.com has an excellent dictionary feature with etymology. Zhongwen.com is a long-time favorite but it does not work on my Android tablet. Speaking of tablets, Google Translate can interpret hand-written Chinese characters without requiring any special software.
